A diesel injector nozzle is a critical component of a diesel engine's fuel system. Its primary function is to spray or "atomize" a precise amount of high-pressure diesel fuel into the combustion chamber. Atomizing the fuel means breaking it into a fine mist of tiny droplets, which allows it to mix thoroughly with the compressed, hot air in the cylinder. This mixture then self-ignites, providing the power to run the engine.

The design of the nozzle is crucial for the engine's performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions. Different types of nozzles, such as sac-type and valve-covered orifice (VCO) designs, are used in various engine systems to achieve the required spray pattern and fuel distribution. Modern injector nozzles, often controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU), can even perform multiple injections per combustion cycle to optimize performance, reduce noise, and lower emissions.
